Social media claims that the UK government has suspended Uganda Airlines’ Entebbe–Gatwick flights are false.

Uganda Airlines recently announced the launch of direct flights between Entebbe and London Gatwick, set to begin on May 18, 2025, operating four times a week with its Airbus A330-800neo.
A viral post falsely claims that British Foreign Secretary David Lammy ordered the suspension of these flights due to human rights concerns. However, Uganda Airlines has dismissed the allegation, confirming that its Foreign Carriers Permit remains valid and that preparations for the launch are on track.
There has been no official statement from the UK government, the Civil Aviation Authority, or the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) regarding any suspension.
British High Commissioner to Uganda, Lisa Chesney, attended the route announcement event, highlighting the UK’s support for the new flights and their economic and cultural benefits.

The false claim also attempts to link the alleged imprisonment of Kizza Besigye and the recently concluded Kawempe North by-elections. Factjaja’s thorough verification using credible sources confirms that the claim about David Lammy suspending Uganda Airlines’ flights to London is completely false.
Factjaja conducted a factchecking process using verified sources, and confirmed that the claims are false.
