A TikTok video has been widely shared, claiming that former U.S. President Donald Trump advised Ugandans to reject an apology from President Yoweri Museveni and the First Lady. However, this claim is false and based on a manipulated video.
A reverse image search of frames from the video shows that the original footage was taken from a separate event. In the authentic clip, Trump is seen addressing an attempted assassination he survived while campaigning ahead of the July 2024 U.S. presidential election. This speech took place during the Republican National Convention, and had no connection to Ugandan affairs.

To determine whether the video had been digitally altered, Factjaja analyzed it using platform.sensity.ai a forensic tool for detecting AI-generated media. The results showed 89.4% probability that the video had been manipulated using artificial intelligence. In addition, a lip-sync detection analysis revealed a 90.3% likelihood that the audio had been altered to match fabricated speech.
Furthermore, a keyword search for the phrase “Donald Trump asks Ugandans to reject Museveni’s apology” returned no credible sources or news reports to support the claim.
In conclusion, the video has been digitally altered to mislead viewers into believing Trump made political comments about Uganda — which he did not.
