This cover page of the New Vision is doctored. The version circulating on social media with the headline “Freezing in Mbarara District. NRM flag bearer with fake documents for different people (Twinomujuni and Jeniffer)” is digitally manipulated. Some of the headlines on the New Vision edition dated 23 September 2023 were cropped out, and the original headline “BOBI USA Promoter Charged” was replaced with the false message.
The fake front page was created and shared to spread misinformation—acts that are common during election periods to cause confusion, blackmail, and propaganda. Factjaja conducted a thorough investigation using reverse Google image search and discovered the original article on the official New Vision website.
Additionally, on Wednesday, 5th November 2025, the New Vision raised an alert about the same claim on their official Facebook page stating: “FAKE NEWS ALERT! Dear our esteemed readers, please treat the page on the left making rounds as fake news! The page on the right side is the authentic New Vision front page.”
Such types of altered news, fabricated articles, and AI-generated content are expected to increase during and after elections. We encourage the public to report any article that appears suspicious for free fact-checking and to avoid spreading misinformation. Always be critical whenever you come across news that seems untrue.
