Images circulating on social media claim that schools in Uganda will reopen in April 2026 due to the general elections. This claim is false and misleading.
The Factjaja fact-checking team reviewed the claim using reliable verification methods. Several TikTok accounts with large followings shared an image presented as a press conference featuring on “BBS News”
Not BBS Terefayina carrying the headline: “All schools to be reopened April 04, 2026 due to general elections,” with a backdrop branded Ministry of Education and Sports – Uganda.
Our investigation included reverse image searches and digital forensic analysis, as well as verification through the official Ministry of Education and Sports website and social media channels. We found no official announcement supporting this claim. The image itself shows strong indicators of being AI-generated.
Further checks revealed that the “BBS News” logo used in the image does not match the authentic branding of BBS Terefayina, and does not appear on any of its official platforms.
Conclusion: The image and the claim it promotes are fabricated. The public is urged to rely on official government channels for information about school calendars and to avoid sharing content that creates confusion.
